Hiking around southern Vermont
Southern Vermont is not only a beautiful place to hike, but it also has a unique place in hiking history. In 1909, James P. Taylor was on Stratton Mountain when he conceived of the Long Trail, a 272-mile hike along the spine of Vermont, from Massachusetts to Quebec, Canada. During the construction of the Long Trail, while on Stratton, Benton MacKaye envisioned a trail spanning the entire Appalachian Mountains. Today, the Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail share a significant stretch through southern Vermont.
After decades of experience, the following stand out as our select recommendations for day hikes that are relatively accessible to a range of ages and abilities, with a high element of reward! Please also inquire directly about recommended hikes in the immediate area surrounding our farm. These include hikes that are open to the public but are not publicly advertised by the landowners.
